Working with application links remotely

The Meridian Enterprise application links feature special support for working remotely. This remote mode can be useful when working with these applications on a WAN or from remote offices with modest network bandwidth. Remote application links require at least a full time Internet connection to the PowerWeb server and are not the same as working in Offline mode, which does not require a full time connection.

Note:

Using application links remotely is different than using remote session support to run the Meridian client applications with remote access software such as Windows Remote Desktop or Citrix Delivery Center. For remote application links, no third-party software is required. However, Meridian PowerWeb must be installed on a web server and you must have an active connection to it.

In remote mode, the links manage document metadata and references using the same protocol (HTTP) as PowerWeb together with document copies in your local workspace instead of from the vault. This mode requires less bandwidth to the Meridian server than when working normally in Online mode.

To enable Remote mode:

  1. Right-click the Accruent Application Integration icon in the system tray. A shortcut menu appears.
  2. Point to Mode (Online) and select Remote.

There are some limits to the kind of references that are supported by the application links in Remote mode:

  • Documents that have been replaced (by the Replace command) are not detected.
  • References are only resolved for documents that exist in local workspace.
